The Disabled Persons' Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) has published its Ninth Annual Report. Commenting on the Report which has been presented to the Secretary of State for Transport, Sir George Young, the Committee's Chairman Robert Taylor OBE said:
"This year has been a particularly challenging one for the Committee. We have seen, for the first time, legislative provision made for disabled people in the field of transport.
"The Disability Discrimination Act now provides the Secretary of State for Transport with powers to make regulations covering access standards for new public transport vehicles as well as giving a right of access to public transport infrastructure (stations, airports,etc).
"The Committee has been involved in formulating the legislation and in continuing to progress access and mobility across a wide range of other areas.
"These are exciting times for all those involved in the mobility field and the Committee will have a central role in working with the Department of Transport and the transport industry in drawing up the Regulations that will follow from the Act"
