Reappointment of member of British Railways Board

Transport Secretary Sir George Young has reappointed Miss Kazimiera
Kantor as a part-time non-executive member of the BR Board, until
December 1997.

The appointment was made after consultation with BR Chairman, John
Welsby.

Miss Kantor is now working an average of two days per week, an
increase from her previous commitment of half a day a week.

NOTES FOR EDITORS

1. Kazimiera Kantor was first appointed a part-time member of
the British Railways Board in June 1987. She continues as Chairman
of the Boards Audit Committee.

2. After graduating from Manchester University, Miss Kantor
qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse. She has
worked in senior finance and business development positions with
Inchcape plc and Grand Metropolitan plc. Latterly, she was Finance
Director of Central Independent Television plc until June 1994.

3. Now she has a number of part-time appointments, amongst
others, with Somerfield Holdings and Manchester Business School.
