Watts welcomes college sale
John Watts, Minister for Railways and Roads, today welcomed the sale of the College of Railway Technology to Advicepart Limited, a Management Buy-Out team. Welcoming the sale, Mr Watts said: "The move of the College into the private sector is another step in the highly successful privatisation programme. "The privatisation of the railway industry, with its new competency requirements for safety critical work, should offer the College exciting opportunities for new business and ultimately produce significant benefits for all rail users." The College of Railway Technology Limited provides specialist training and development in signalling, telecommunications, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering. The company employs 64 staff at four sites in Derby, London, York and Crewe, and had a turnover of just over #5 million in the financial year 1994/95. Notes to Editors: 1. CRT is part of the Central Services Group of BR businesses. Other recent sales include Signalling Control UK, Interlogic Control Engineering, Castleton Long Welded Rail and Track Works, Interfleet Technology and The Engineering Link. British Rail plan to dispose of the remaining Central Services businesses by the end of the current financial year. # = pounds sterling
