Department of Transport

Statement from Sir George Young, Secretary of State for Transport, on the Watford train accident:

I welcome the announcement that the independent Health and Safety
Executive is to carry out a formal investigation into the train
accident at Watford Junction yesterday, which regrettably resulted in
the death of a passenger and injuries to others.

I particularly welcome the Chairman of the Health and Safety
Commission, Frank Davies's decision to publish a special report on
the incident. It is clearly right and in the public interest that the
findings of the investigators are made as widely available as
possible."
