The British Railways Board has sold its computing subsidiary BR Business Systems (BRBS) to SEMA Group plc.

BRBS is the leading provider of information systems and services to the UK railway industry. Systems provided include the passenger ticketing, settlement and distribution systems for the train operating companies and the real time train operating systems for Railtrack and the train operators. BRBS also provides a range of services including applications development, management, business and bureau services and installation and support of information systems.

BRBS employs around 1,100 staff at its London headquarters and bases around the country. Turnover in 1995/6 was approximately £87 million.
