Continued distruption [[disruption]] for customers travelling via Farnborough and on the Alton line
date 27 February 1997 source Railtrack plc type Press release
Railtrack has today asked customers to bear with them, as work to restore normal services for passengers travelling via Farnborough and on the Alton line will now stretch into the weekend.
Overrunning engineering works in the area last weekend has seen delays experienced by many South West Trains' customers this week. It had originally been hoped that it would be possible to clear the backlog of work before the weekend but this has not proved possible. We are now having to continue working through the weekend to ensure normal services on Monday 3 March.
Railtrack Southern Director, Chris Jago said: "The delay is down to our thorough testing procedures which must be gone through before we allow the new signalling equipment to start operational use. This will involve some continuing disruption to passengers on Saturday and Sunday.
"Whilst the work is ongoing South West Trains will continue to run services with delays and a special timetable will be in operation on Sunday.
"We had hoped to avoid this continuing disruption and apologise for the inconvenience it will cause, but our safety standards demand we do this work," said Mr Jago.
