Over 25,000 volts of electricity will be surging through the overhead power lines on the railway between West Ealing and Hayes from Sunday 16 March.
The last six miles section of track is being electrified and adults and children alike must remember the Railtrack safety message : 'Be smart be wise the tracks are alive'. Over 200,000 householders have received a leaflet about the electrification.
A safety campaign aimed at 50,000 school children in 155 local schools close to the track were told about the dangers of playing on or near the railway during the safety awareness campaign. Television celebrity Gladiator Saracen, who appears on badges, leaflets and T-shirts, visited Fielding Primary School in West Ealing last month to reinforce the message.
The first section of line between Paddington station and West Ealing station was electrified last year (24 November). The full Heathrow Express train service is due to start running in June 1998 with a shuttle service called London-Heathrow Fast Train operating between September 1997 and the start of the full Heathrow Express service.
Railtrack has spent the last three years working toward the completion of this part of the Heathrow Express project. Four road bridges have been reconstructed in Acton, Ealing and Hayes, 12 miles of signal and track have been replaced and over one million man hours have been worked since the project began in 1993.
