The Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) has published its annual report for 1996.

Commenting on the Report, which has been presented to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, the Rt Hon John Prescott, the Committee's Chairman Robert Taylor OBE said:

"1996 was a challenging year for all of us involved in the field of transport for disabled people. Our priority has been to work closely with the Department in taking forward the transport provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act. We have been encouraged by the commitment of everyone involved to progress work in this area.

"In addition to the Disability Discrimination Act, the Committee has also continued its activities in other areas of transport. We have set up a new working group on personal mobility which is looking at a wide range of issues from motoring, through to door to door transportand the pedestrian environment.

"There is still much work to be done. The Committee looks forward to working with the Government, local authorities, the transport industries and disability interests owards our goal of a fully accessible transport system for all."
