Bidders announced for new communications network
Two groups of companies have submitted a bid for London Underground's innovative CONNECT communications project, to install and operate enhanced network wide radio communication services for London Underground.
The two consortia are Gensys - a GPT lead consortium and CityLink Telecommunications, a Racal-led consortium. The two bids are now undergoing thorough evaluation to ensure that they are compliant and meet the requirements of LUL's service specification by offering innovative solutions to the communications needs of the company.
The project is being pursued under the Private Finance Initiative, and the bids will be judged against a Public Sector Comparator - a process which compares them with the cost of a traditional purchase contract. The preferred bidder is expected to be announced in December of this year and contract award is expected to take place next Spring.

The Connect project will involve the design, supply, installation, operation, maintenance and replacement of radio and transmission communication systems to meet the service requirements of London Underground well into the next century. The services will be available at all London Underground sites including tunnels, stations, depots and corporate locations.
