Statement of Strategy 1997
London Transport today published its `Statement of Strategy' which sets out its objectives and priorities for the future.
The publication of the strategy follows extensive consultation with Government, Local Boroughs and Authorities, business organisations, trades unions, transport groups and our passengers, in order to establish what LT's future priorities should be.
London Transport's Chairman, Peter Ford said: "We have always played a vital role in providing a fully integrated transport system for London but there are opportunities for further improvement. We received many helpful suggestions during the period of consultation, with a significant input from members of the public."
"We have taken these into consideration and have developed a fresh strategy detailing achievable plans and policies which balance the wide-ranging transport needs of London's community as a whole".
The strategy sets out ways of improving service on bus and tube networks, in terms of current operational performance and future development, as well as the funding necessary to achieve this. It also considers how London Transport can increase its contribution to the broader economic, environmental and social well being of the capital.
It is intended that this strategy be considered in parallel with the recent Government proposals for a Greater London Authority as well as the ongoing review of funding options for London Underground.
