Railtrack joins forces with National Allotments Organisation to help Railtrack allotment holders

Railtrack has enlisted the expertise and assistance of the National Society of Allotments and Leisure Gardeners (NSALG) to help give advice, and form individual Railtrack allotment holders into associations.
Railtrack has made a firm commitment NOT to terminate any allotment holder's lease, unless the land is needed for another purpose or where safety is an issue.
Railtrack will waive the 'notices to quit' sent out to the majority of Railtrack's 1200 allotment holders, except where land is needed for expansion of the rail network, for development or where there are significant safety implications and even these will be individually reviewed.
By spring next year Railtrack will have set up a dedicated in-house team to review all of Railtrack's small rents, numbering around 30,000. Local agents will be used in this review process as will the NSALG.
Railtrack is still keen to streamline the number of small rent holders it has on its books and will be enlisting the assistance of the NSALG.
Geoff Stokes, secretary of National Society of Allotments and Leisure Gardeners said: "We are very happy to be helping Railtrack allay plotholders fears and our regional members are on standby to go out and visit these holders."
Bob Hill, Railtrack's director of property said: "We have revisited our small rents policy relating to allotments and will ensure that no allotment holder will lose their plot due to our internal 'housekeeping'. We will be working with the NSALG, and reviewing every single allotment we have and will ensure that a full and frank explanation is given to every one of our allotment holders."
