A special team at the Central Office of Information (COI) designed the new corporate identity for the recently merged Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions.
COI won the business in open competition following the merger earlier this year.
The new corporate identity will be carried on DETR's signage, stationery and publications.
The new logo was described by COI's design team as "strong and simple" - three shapes representing the Department's component parts, intertwined and moving in one direction.
By retaining and reworking visual elements already associated with the former departments, the logo draws together the Department's diverse portfolio.
The combination of familiar elements - the perspective of the old Department of Transport logo, the character and corporate fonts (Goudy and Helvetica Neue) of the old Department of the Environment logo, and the colours and movements of both - has led to the creation of a contemporary, yet timeless corporate mark that will be easily recognised.
COI had to meet the following brief: bring together the two existing departments (Environment and Transport) and seamlessly introduce the third (Regions); visually unify the Department's wide-ranging portfolio and provide a strong impact to all its communications.
