date 11 December 1997 source Railtrack plc type Press release
Railtrack has unveiled plans to radically improve the quality of Sevenoaks Station car parking with a new 400 plus space, CCTV monitored facility.
The £800,000 scheme details the expansion of the present London Road car park, to the west of the station, from 226 spaces to 482 spaces. The plans include the resurfacing of the present car park and the reclamation of presently unused Railtrack land. Full CCTV coverage of the car park and improved, but directional lighting, will drastically improve car park security. Provisions for landscaping an screening have also been made.
Railtrack have submitted a planning application with the local authority and if approved work should start on the new car park in the spring with completion by the summer. Bob Hill, Railtrack's director of property said: "With the sale of the Hitchen Hatch Lane car park and area to BT the need to relocate the lost car parking was clear. I am very pleased to announce this investment in an improved, larger and more secure area for rail travellers to use and be able to feel comfortable about leaving their car whilst at work." Richard Fearn, managing director of Connex South Eastern commented on the plans: "We welcome the increase in secure car parking space that would be available to our customers under these plans which complement our own station improvement programme."
