Britain’s passenger rail companies today welcomed John Prescott’s decision to establish the Commission for Integrated Transport.
Commenting on the new Commission, ATOC Chairman Giles Fearnley, said: "There is no doubt that an integrated transport policy with clear objectives and guidance holds the key to improving Britain’s transport system. The passenger rail industry, which has already established numerous integrated transport schemes, will work very closely with the Commission’s Chairman, Professor David Begg, to ensure rail remains at the heart of transport throughout Britain.
"ATOC believe the Commission will provide an intellectual, pragmatic and far sighted contribution, and we stand willing and able to assist the Commission in its task."
