Mr Steven Marshall, formerly Group Chief Executive, Thorn plc, has been appointed Finance Director of Railtrack Group PLC, with effect from 1st December 1999. Mr Marshall succeeds Mr Norman Broadhurst, who will remain an executive director unti his planned retirement next year. Mr Marshall will also be appointed a director of Railtrack PLC.

Mr Marshall (42), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, joined Thorn plc in 1995 as Group Finance and Commercial Director, before becoming Group Chief Executive in 1998.Prior to joining Thorn, he held senior finance positions in Grand Metropolitan plc, latterly as Finance Director of International Distillers & Vintners European business.

Announcing the appointment, Sir Philip Beck, Chairman, Railtrack Group PLC said 'Norman has made a huge contribution to Railtrack from its formation, particularly masterminding the float and the arrangements around Phase 1 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. He has agreed to stay to help with the regulatory review and to negotiate the arrangements for the integration of London Underground's subsurface lines with Railtrack's overground network. We welcome Steven Marshall as his successor. He has a strong financial and commercial background and I'msure will make a major contribution.'
