Train operators welcome passenger survey

The publication of the first National Rail Passenger Survey was welcomed today by the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC).

"We are glad for this opportunity to listen to what passengers think of our services," said George Muir, Director General of ATOC.

"The experience of passengers on most journeys is of a good service. We are very encouraged that 76% of passengers are fairly or very satisfied with their day's journey. Our challenge is to make this happen every time. We want to see 100% customer satisfaction and will be working hard to achieve this."

"Overcrowding is a particular issue on busy commuter trains. We need extra capacity so that all passengers can travel in comfort. This will need large capital investment, and we are ready to play our part."

"Passengers should be seeing more value for money this year when 1000 new carriages will replace old rolling stock to make journeys more comfortable and punctual".

"We hear what passengers are saying about the quality of information during disruption and are putting a lot of effort into improving systems to allow us to give passengers what they need."
