Press release
Virgin Trains
Macclesfield station refurbishment
Customers visiting Macclesfield railway station recently can’t fail to have noticed the work being carried out to improve the facilities on offer.
On Friday 14th April, The Worshipful, the Mayor of the Borough of Macclesfield, Cllr Carolyn Andrew, will join Nicholas Winterton MP in officially unveiling the station improvements.
The Station frontage has received a new lease of life with its brightly coloured exterior. Once inside, the changes to the Booking Hall have created a much lighter and spacious working environment for the staff and customers alike.
LED displays over each window, indicate those counters open for service which with one extra ticket window for those busy mornings and a lowered window/counter for easier wheelchair access, has made the whole customer enquiry / ticket purchase experience much more customer friendly.
Adjacent to the Ticket Office is a brand new waiting area, which will have access to the buffet/shop (not yet open). The waiting area which is decorated in lilac and blue hues, offers customers a pleasant area in which to relax whilst waiting for their train.
Completely new toilets have also been installed on platform one providing facilities for Ladies and Gentlemen together with a separate wheelchair accessible toilet.
Safety and security are as important to Virgin Trains as they are to our customers and the installation of CCTV cameras in the car park and on the platforms each with 360 degree vision, further demonstrates our customer and staff commitments in security.
At a cost of over £100k, this is just the first phase of improvements at Macclesfield as plans are already under discussion to update facilities on platform two.
