You know the story…. you’re trying to get 40 winks on your train journey home after a stressful day in the office, when some loud-mouth on a mobile phone destroys your peace and quiet! But now, if you’re travelling on Virgin Trains, you can escape from mobile phone hell by boarding one of its Quiet Coaches where mobile phone use is banned.

The new initiative, launched recently on all of Virgin Trains’ West Coast and CrossCountry routes is proving a huge success. It was introduced as a response to research among Virgin Trains’ passengers, which revealed that 64% wanted mobile-free zones, and 40% wanted to be able to reserve seats in these areas. Even many business travellers with mobile phones preferred to switch off during their journey – 83% of those surveyed were travelling on business and 63% were carrying a mobile phone.

Chief Executive of Virgin Trains, Chris Green explains:

“Mobile phones have become part of our lives, but many passengers want to relax in peace and quiet on the train. Now we’re giving them a choice.”
