Commenting on the stories in today's press about the possibility that future ticket retailing may be restricted, Rail Regulator Tom Winsor said:
"Any such proposal would require my approval.
"The train operators have made no application to me for any such approval.
"I have no intention of approving anything which is detrimental to the interests of passengers."
NOTES FOR EDITORS
1. Under Condition 7 of each passenger train operator's licence, the train operators are required to comply with arrangements approved by the Regulator concerning:
"stations at which, and the journeys in respect of which, through tickets, and tickets from any station specified in or under such arrangements to any other such station, shall be sold and honoured".
2. The arrangements in question are constituted in the Ticketing and Settlement Agreement, approved by the Regulator. Changes to the arrangements require the Regulator's approval.
