Anglia Railways announces compensation arrangements for rail passengers

  type Press release

Anglia Railways has announced details of the compensation arrangements for rail passengers who travelled between Norwich, Ipswich and London, and were affected by the disruption to train services in the period from 18 October to 11 November 2000, because of speed restrictions on the Norwich to London mainline.

The following compensation arrangements will apply for mainline service ticket-holders:

Anglia Railways’ season ticket holders

A total of 16 days compensation payable in travel vouchers or cheque refund (equivalent to a refund of the cost of travel for 16 days.) Season ticket holders are asked to complete a claim form, available from staffed stations.

Anglia Railways’ non-season ticket holders

Compensation will be available to non-season ticket holders in line with the guidelines as published in Anglia Railways’ Passenger’s Charter. As a guide, for passengers delayed by between 45 minutes and an hour on a journey, Anglia Railways will offer travel vouchers to the value of at least 20% of that particular journey.

For delays of between an hour and 90 minutes, travel vouchers to the value of at least 50% will be offered, and for delays of over 90 minutes, a full refund in vouchers will be offered for that particular journey.

The information above for non-season ticket holders describes the minimum compensation offer to passengers - depending on the individual passenger’s experience, in some cases the actual offer will exceed the Passenger’s Charter minimum.

Customers affected are asked to claim in the usual way, by obtaining a comments form from staffed stations and returning to: Anglia Railways’ Customer Relations, Ipswich Station, Burrell Road, Ipswich, IP2 8AL.

Other information

Every effort is being made to process compensation claims as quickly as possible. Anglia Railways expects to operate the revised mainline temporary timetable until at least early January, but it is hoped to improve the temporary timetable in the meantime, prior to the restoration of the full service.

Anglia Railways’ local train services are not affected by speed restrictions, but some connections into and out of the mainline trains may have changed. Passengers are advised to check before travelling.

Anglia Railways apologises for the delays that passengers have experienced of late and would like to reassure customers that every effort is being made to minimise delays, and to restore the full service as quickly as possible.
