The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) notes that Tom Winsor, the Rail Regular [[Regulator]], has issued an Order requiring Railtrack to supply detailed recovery plans for each train operator, to allow planning a complete return to normal.
ATOC on behalf of all passenger train operators and the freight company EWS fully support this action.
While Railtrack has provided train operators with a considerable amount of information about their recovery plan, we still need further information before every train operator is able to plan a complete return-to-normal. We have asked that this be provided by 18th January. This timing will allow Railtrack to take account of the work they have done over Christmas and the New Year.
Train operators already have most of the information they need to plan timetables between now and the end of January, but they lack detail beyond that.
George Muir, Director General of ATOC, said: "We know that Railtrack has made progress in the past three weeks, but we don't yet have a return-to-normal plan for each operator. This is what passengers need.
"We are working closely with Railtrack to develop these detailed plans and we expect they can be prepared in time. The action of the Regulator will underpin this objective."
