Anglia Railways’ local train services between Ipswich and Cambridge will return to a normal timetable from Tuesday 13 February 2001.
Services have been diverted to Ely since Friday 2 February because of damaged points in the Chippenham Junction area, near Ely. Earlier predictions from Railtrack indicated that the work would possibly take up to 6 weeks to resolve. Anglia Railways are pleased that the repairs will now take place more quickly, to ensure services return to a normal timetable.
Railtrack will be carrying out the necessary track replacement and associated work overnight on Monday 12 February – this will enable a full timetable between Ipswich and Cambridge to be restored from Tuesday 13 February.
To ensure the replacement work is successfully completed, the 20.16 and 22.00 Ipswich to Ely services on Monday 12 February will both terminate at Bury St. Edmunds (road transport will be provided for passengers travelling beyond Bury). Similarly, the 05.17 Ipswich to Ely service on Tuesday 13 February will also terminate at Bury, and the 06.43 service from Cambridge to Ipswich will operate as a replacement bus service as far as Stowmarket.
Normal services will then resume on Tuesday 13 February from the 06.41 Ipswich to Cambridge and 0832 Cambridge to Ipswich services.
