Commenting on the Strategic Rail Authority's bulletin on train performance between 15 October 2000 and 6 January 2001, ATOC Director General, George Muir, said:
"The two months after the Hatfield accident, train performance and passengers suffered terribly from speed restrictions imposed by Railtrack and wide spread flooding. The industry responded to the delays by announcing two passenger compensation packages totalling £70m."
"Train operators and Railtrack have been working very hard and it is encouraging to see December's figures show some improvement from the previous two months. However, there is some way still to go to get services back to pre-Hatfield levels."
