The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) today welcomed the publication of the Strategic Rail Authority's Strategic Agenda.

ATOC Director General, George Muir, described the document as "an important step on the way to delivering the industry's objectives for the Government's 10-Year Transport Plan".

Mr Muir said: "Sir Alastair Morton's document sets out a number of practical proposals for moving the railways forward. Our members will now consider his suggestions in detail and will be discussing them with the SRA over the next few weeks.

"The most important challenge facing the industry is to get on with the business of delivering on the 10-Year Plan. Today's document represents an important step towards that and will help to ensure an effective Strategic Plan, due to be published by the SRA in the Autumn."
