Railtrack today announced that due to personal circumstances Sir John Parker had withdrawn from his proposed role as the new Railtrack Chairman.
Sir John had been in advanced discussions about the post but for personal reasons had unfortunately had to withdraw his candidacy over the weekend and notified the Railtrack Board on Monday 26 March.
Railtrack has immediately re-started its search for a new Chairman to replace Sir Philip Beck who has stated his intention to step down before the Annual General Meeting in July. It expects to make an announcement about the appointment in the near future, reflecting the high calibre of candidates it had on its short list.
Commenting on the announcement, Railtrack Chairman Sir Philip Beck said:
'We had all looked forward to Sir John joining the team and his proposed appointment had been met with approval from all relevant parties. His late withdrawal from the post due to understandable personal circumstances is obviously disappointing. However, we had drawn up a high quality short list and we are continuing discussions with candidates on that list. We expect an announcement shortly.'
