Virgin Trains has operated a 16 coach Voyager train over the East Coast Main Line. The combined train had a total power output of 12,000hp.

The testing of four Class 220 Voyager trains coupled – units 220021/2/3/6 – on Thursday September 6th was to prove the operation of on train systems in accordance with vehicle acceptance procedures. The train was put through its paces between York and Darlington.

Virgin Trains now has over half of the 34-strong fleet of Class 220 Voyagers on its books. Units accepted are 220001-9/16-24. A further two Voyagers are undergoing commissioning at Crofton – 220025/26.

The next Voyager milestones will be on Monday September 17th when the new trains start to replace the old locomotives and coaches on CrossCountry services. The following day, Tuesday September 18th, a special eight car Voyager train will operate over the West Coast Main Line from London Euston to Lichfield Trent Valley (Low Level).
