In a reassuring message to passengers following the news that Railtrack is to be placed into administration, The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) today said: 'Trains will run normally. Passengers can plan their journeys, and make advance bookings in the normal way. We look forward to a busy winter on the railways".

Commenting on the actions of the Secretary of State, Stephen Byers, Director General, George Muir said: "There is a positive tone to the statements of the Secretary of State. He talks about a chance for a new beginning in the railways. This I welcome. We need a properly funded stable network operator."
