''This was a constructive and useful meeting. It mainly concentrated on issues concerning the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and outstanding guarantees.
''Railtrack tabled a number of proposals which the Government will be responding to on Monday. The Government''s response will be consistent with the position we stated on Sunday, that there will be no additional taxpayers'' money to compensate shareholders but that we would assist Railtrack in maximising the value of these assets.''
