We welcome the SRA’s plan for the railways, but it is only a start, said Ian Brown, Transport for London’s director of Rail Services, following publication of the Strategic Rail Authority’s plan.
Mr Brown continued:
"We still believe there should be a Commuter Rail Authority for London and we need to understand how this fits in with the SRA’s plans for simplification of franchising in London. For example, we don’t think it is sensible for those operating services on the mainline to Bristol and Devon to be operating local services within London and to Slough.
"We want to develop further our current good working with the SRA on London projects - the East London Line being the earliest priority and in the longer term looking at ways of joint-working on Crossrail. We have jointly set up the London Programme Office, to plan, co-ordinate and prioritise the rail projects in London and when the Underground comes in to TfL, to co-ordinate investment."
