Commenting on the rail performance indicators set by the Secretary of State earlier today, ATOC Director General, George Muir, said: "These measures will reflect the making of successful investment, in new rolling stock and in the train protection system now being rolled out. We welcome them, because this is how passengers will see sustainable improvement.

"Punctuality is a more complex issue, reflecting congestion on the network, and the industry is doing all it can to make long term improvements."
