Train companies in South-East England are getting behind the Queen’s Golden Jubilee by providing thousands more seats to carry people in and out of London for the main events.
During the celebrations, train operators will increase the number of seats by adding extra carriages to many services and some additional train services will also operate to carry people home after the conclusion of major events in London on Saturday and Monday evenings and Tuesday afternoon.
A summary of rail services for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee are:
Saturday June 1st Adapted Saturday service with extra carriages/trains at busy periods
Sunday June 2nd A near normal Sunday service will operate as there are no major celebrations planned.
Monday June 3rd Adapted Saturday service with extra carriages/trains at busy periods. Following the Lighting of the National Beacon on the Mall and Son et Lumière Fireworks services will be strengthened with additional carriages to take people home. Crowd control measures may be put in place at stations close to major events.
Tuesday June 4th Adapted Saturday service with extra carriages/trains at busy periods. Services will be enhanced in the morning to get visitors into town to view the State Procession and Festival Entertainment, and again in the early evening for the return journey home following the Royal Family’s concluding balcony appearance at 1745 hours. Crowd control measures may be put in place at stations close to major events.
Commenting on the rail services during the weekend, ATOC London Director, Paul Smith, said: "With public interest in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee rising day by day, London train companies will be playing their part by helping as many visitors as possible to travel to the exciting London events by train. Before travelling to any event by rail, I urge people to check train times for journeys in and out of London with the National Rail Enquiry Service."
