London & South East

The brand new railway delivery centre at Ely was officially opened today signalling a new era in front line focus and partnership on the West Anglia outer route which covers the area from Elsenham to Kings Lynn, Elmswell, Wymondham, Whittlesea and Meldreth.

Network Rail and its contractors, AMEC, had previously been located at different sites, but the increased focus on joint delivery at the front line, made the Ely team realise that their accommodation needs had to change.

Chris Cridford, maintenance delivery manager said: “The new office will make the day job much more effective and efficient. Everyone is really motivated by working in partnership and are looking forward to moving in together!”

The new purpose built office will house up to 35 Network Rail and AMEC employees.

Co-locating staff will further enhance the working partnership. The new office has much improved staff accommodation. It is brighter, more modern and has excellent new IT systems. The centre will be officially opened by Colin Turner and Stewart Rogers, Network Rail’s and AMEC’s longest serving members of staff in the area, both having worked in the industry for over 40 years. Local staff will join them to familiarise themselves with the office and have the opportunity to see a display of photographs depicting the route’s landmarks, infrastructure and in particular the hard work that goes into making the team proud of the area.
