Sgt Bill Maytham, British Transport Police who was on site this morning said: “Whenever an incident such as Haywards crossing occurs the British Transport Police, in partnership with the rail industry, will carry out an thorough investigation. Where misuse is identified as a cause we will seek prosecutions of those individuals concerned. Level crossings have a hundred percent safety record when used correctly. It is only when the ‘green cross code’ of level crossings is abused that incidents happen.”
