Hull Trains is re-organising its top management team as it shapes up to increase services and introduce a new fleet of 125 mph trains over the next two years.
Jim Morgan, the London based senior executive at GB Railways who has been managing director on a part-time basis, is to stand back from the Hull Trains role and appoint a full-time Hull based managing director; the appointment of a senior railway professional is expected to be made within the next two months. Jim Morgan will retain a watching brief for Hull Trains, but his main focus will be on GB Railways' franchise bids. Clive Gossop, currently general manager, will also move to parent company GB Railways, with the operational responsibilities being handled by the new full-time managing director. No other staff will be affected by the changes.
Jim Morgan said, "The last two years have been very exciting. I am firmly of the view that the work delivered by Hull Trains has been nothing but a good news story for Hull and for the railways. But the increasing demands of the role, means that a full-time MD is now a necessity - to dovetail these major expansion plans with our current operations. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the work that Clive Gossop has done - we have gone from nothing to a first class service of which the City of Hull can be proud. Increasing the services, introducing more and even better trains will bring more good news and opportunities for Hull, both for the business community and the leisure market."
Clive Gossop said "It's been a great privilege to be at the heart of delivering such positive benefits for this City and the other destinations on the Hull Trains route. I'm convinced that bringing in a full time managing director will ensure that Hull Trains will go from strength to strength - particularly with the plans to bring even more services with a new fleet of trains. While I am sad to be leaving, I am looking forward to my new role with GB Railways, working at a more strategic level on important and challenging franchise bids."
Mr Morgan concluded, " Now is the time to ensure that the company leadership is positioned to take the team through a period of strategic change - and that needs a full time senior appointment at the helm in Hull, integrating the growth of the company with operations and the quality service that's already in place."
Hull Trains is currently negotiating additional train paths to London with Network Rail, and is also expected to announce a deal which will see the introduction of brand new 125 mph train sets in early 2005.
