The RMT union has decided upon strike action on Friday 28 and Monday 31 March and Thursday 17 April and Connex services will be affected.
The RMT is striking over the safety role of the conductor. Connex believes that any change in the role should be agreed by the state official body (Railway Safety) and not via a strike.
However I believe that the strike is over job security. Our conductors are worried about the future of their jobs. I have written to and personally met the RMT to find a way to secure their jobs and call-off the strike. The best way to secure their jobs is not only to increase their safety responsibilities, but also to find a role for them, that our passengers find helpful, that our conductors are proud to do and that Connex can sustain financially.
The RMT do not agree and strike action will take place. We have been training our managers to ensure we can run as many of our services as possible so that the disruption will be kept to a minimum.
Overall, we believe we will run 70% of our services, although this will vary by location. Full details will be posted in advance on our website and on posters at stations.
I am sorry for the disruption you will face but we will do all we can to keep it to a minimum.
