Preparatory work is now under way for the latest stage of the West Coast Route Modernisation.
Network Rail and its team will be carrying out tree clearance work close to Goostrey station, to enable the construction of a temporary compound. The compound will be located away from the road and surrounded by an environmental sound barrier.
Commented Area Director Bill West: “Throughout the process we have been in close consultation with the local and highways authorities to ensure this site is carefully managed with minimum impact to Goostrey village. Once complete we will also ensure the area used is returned to its former condition. During the local work, the new compound will be carefully managed with all heavy goods traffic diverted away from the village, and additional traffic and noise management in place to keep disruption to an absolute minimum. The project will be working within very strict environmental parameters laid down by the local authority.”
The work forms part of the multi billion pound modernisation of the West Coast Main Line and will provide a safer, faster and more reliable railway. Added Bill West: “This work forms a vital part of the successful construction of the West Coast Project and we will continue to work closely with local organisations to ensure this is carried out in a responsible and efficient manner.”
