A new route to Manchester

From this Sunday, 18 May 2003, Midland Mainline will operate services between Manchester Piccadilly and London St. Pancras. This has been introduced as an alternative route for passengers travelling between Manchester, Stockport and London during the West Coast Main Line Route Modernisation programme.

Initially there will be 9 services every weekday, rising to an hourly service of 15 services every weekday from 30 June 2003.

Journey times between Manchester and London St. Pancras will be an average of just over three hours. Trains will take an alternative route to Manchester, with stops at Luton, Wellingborough, Kettering, Market Harborough, Leicester, and Stockport.
