Tim O'Toole, London Underground Managing Director (designate) today named his top two management appointments.

Mike Brown has been named as London Underground's Chief Operating Officer, responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day running of the Tube, including Customer Services train and station operations, Marketing and Planning, Communications and Information Services. Mike is currently LU's Customer Services Director (Stations).

Bob Janowski has been named Chief Programmes Officer, responsible for managing LU's interfaces with the PPP Infracos, Metronet (SSL & BCV) and Tube Lines (JNP) and other PFI contracts. Currently employed by engineers Parsons Brinckerhoff, Bob has been working with TfL for some months, to develop methods to manage the PPP contracts in the best interests of Londoners and Tube users.

Tim O'Toole said:
"I am delighted to be able to announce the two key appointments at London Underground. Mike's first class knowledge and experience of the Tube together with Bob's top level engineering and management skills will combine to make a formidable team.

"Tube staff have worked very hard to transport three million people daily in difficult times. Now, with the uncertainty being lifted, Tube staff can begin to believe in a renewed Underground. I'm confident their pride and morale will be boosted and their hard work will mean improving Tube performance."

Tim O'Toole, Mike Brown and Bob Janowski will take up their posts when LU transfers to TfL, expected to be on July 15. When London Underground transfers to TfL the Tube, it will become the responsibility of Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone and the Greater London Authority.

Ken Livingstone said:
"Transport for London has shown it can deliver real transport improvements for London, including better bus services and the successful introduction of the world's largest congestion charge scheme.

"I am confident that if anyone can deliver Tube improvements under this PPP structure, it is Bob Kiley and Tim O'Toole."

TfL Commissioner, Bob Kiley said: "TfL's London Underground top management team is now in place. I am looking forward to the Tube being transferred to TfL on July 15."
