Hull Trains has just appointed its 50th permanent member of staff. The Hull-based train operating company, which has grown from a zero base before September 2000, is now recognised as one of the best train operating companies in the country and claims that its staff - most of which live in the city - are the key to its continuing success.

Paul Lakin, the organisation's commercial manager, said: "We have a reputation for employing high calibre people, who not only understand the business but are passionate about providing a top class service. We now employ 50 such staff, the majority of which are home grown talent, who have helped to position the company among the best in UK."

Two recent appointments have taken the number of employees up to the 50 mark - James Cooper has joined the on-board catering team and has already received two personal letters of thanks from members of the public who have been grateful for his help. Commenting on his move, James said: "I am absolutely delighted to take up a position of such significance for the company. As soon as I heard that there was a vacancy at Hull Trains I just knew that I should apply. Hull Trains' reputation for providing high class customer service is second to none and I wanted to be a part of another of Hull's great success stories."

Sarah Goulbourne, who also joined the on-board catering team recently, added: "I had heard really positive things about Hull Trains, so it's great to become part of such a fast-moving and forward-thinking organisation. I am finding the work really enjoyable because I like meeting people and am working with a great team of people."

Councillor Kath Lavery, Hull City Council's cabinet member with responsibility for city economy, said: "Hull Trains have done a marvellous job and, along with other prestigious companies, are helping to put the city 'on the map'. To create such a large number of jobs in a relatively short period of time is great news and I'm delighted to learn that this figure has now reached 50. The company can be proud of what it has achieved and should be applauded."

The news of the 50th position created and filled at Hull Trains follows the announcement that the company has appointed Mark Leving, a senior figure from within the rail industry, to the position of Managing Director. Mark, who will join Hull Trains later this month, will be the first full time Hull-based Managing Director in the company's short history.

It has also been announced that Paul Lakin, who was previously Hull Trains' sales and marketing manager, will take on a wider role within the organisation with much more responsibility to reflect the new changes at the top. Paul's promotion sees him take on the newly created role of Commercial Manager - a position 'more suited to his high-level management portfolio'.
