Last night, Fenland District Council’s planning committee gave their full support and backing to Network Rail’s plans for the former marshalling yard at Whitemoor, March. The County Council is considering the overall application but the District Council was an important consultee.
Peter Heubeck, Project Director, Network Rail, addressed the committee and said: “Network Rail is delighted to bring this application before you. It guarantees our ability to supply an expanding programme of improvements to the rail network, and it brings railway employment back to March.”
Many of the councillors in the committee gave comments and all were supportive. Councillor West said: “Over the last 12 months I have spoken to hundreds of people and as far as March is concerned, we are 100% behind you. We need this development.”
Councillor Howlett said: “Look along Norwood road bridge and see what you have now – a tip. It’s full of rubbish. It’s not a country park. This development can’t come soon enough.”
