Passenger comfort is set to reach new heights when Hull Trains introduces new Class 170 trains on its Hull to London services next year.

The trains will feature a number of modifications and improvements that will further enhance the travelling experience for people using Hull Trains, including smart new interiors that better reflect the company’s corporate image. The exterior of the carriages will also bear the new Hull Trains livery, ensuring that the brand name becomes a familiar sight the length and breadth of the country.

All First Class carriages and one of the two standard carriages on each train will feature power sockets, making life easier for anyone who wants to plug in their laptop computer and get on with some work. This improvement is sure to be a hit with the business community, students and anyone else who wants to put their journey time to good use.

In addition to this, new and more spacious catering facilities mean that the already extensive range of refreshments on board Hull Trains will be extended further, catering for a even wider range of tastes. With everything from hot and cold drinks, to snacks and freshly-prepared hot meals on offer, Hull Trains is creating for its passengers a home-from-home environment, where they can choose to immerse themselves in their work, browse through their free copy of the Hull Daily Mail or simply sit back, relax and enjoy the journey.

The new Class 170s also feature a number of technical improvements, including:

- Electrical cross feeding - this means that in the event of a power failure of a diesel engine, hydrostatic system or alternator, the affected vehicle can import power from another vehicle in the unit.

- Start battery protection – the battery system will protect itself, which means that a train that is not ‘stabled’ overnight will still be able to start its engines many days later.

- Updated interior equipment - including modifications to the passenger information system, newly-designed litter-bins and new, easier-to-use handles on gangway doors.

Commercial Manager for Hull Trains, Paul Lakin, said: “We are confident that the new Class 170s will be a huge hit
with those who travel by Hull trains regularly, as well as encouraging new customers to use our services again in the future. Ensuring that our passengers have a pleasant and relaxing journey is always a priority for us and the Class 170s offer a much enhanced level comfort, in terms of their appearance, practicality and safety.”
