Network Rail response to HSE annual safety report

Network Rail today welcomed the HSE annual report, which, on the whole, demonstrates that rail continues to be a safe way to travel.

The number of category A signals passed at danger (SPADs) is now at its lowest level since records began and the number of broken rails is down 17% compared to last year. Whilst we have seen many improvements, the year was overshadowed by the tragedy at Potters Bar which reminds us that eternal vigilance on safety is essential. Network Rail remains committed to its objective to provide a reliable and efficient rail infrastructure where safety is at the forefront of everything we do.
