Commenting on today’s announcement by the Rail Regulator on Network Rail’s funding requirements, George Muir, Director-General of the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) said:
"The Rail Regulator has got the balance right. This is a difficult decision from the regulator but one which train operators and passengers should welcome because it paves the way for a railway that is both better performing and more efficient. A reliable and efficient railway is a good investment for Britain. "This is less money than Network Rail asked for so they have a tough job ahead of them, but there is a good management team at Network Rail and we think they can do it."
"The difficult and complex nature of the decisions announced today demands that the Regulator remains independent of all parties."
