Hull Trains is delighted to announce that from 24 May 2004, its direct services to and from London will be stopping at Howden.

The news of the Howden service, which is a great boost to the East Riding, follows hot on the heels of the announcement of Hull Trains' £14 million investment in brand-new Class 170 trains which will come into service at the end of this month, 29 March.

Announcing the new stop at Howden, Hull Trains' Managing Director, Mark Leving, said, "We have been working very closely with the local authority and the business community to bring this about, and I'm convinced that this is a significant benefit for the leisure and business groups in the area. Bringing in this service is another piece of good news for us with our new trains and the new Hull Trains livery which we proudly carry. We are anticipating a good up-take from the Howden stop - and because we are not subsidised in anyway, we have had to ensure that there is a robust business case for the stop. A number of local businesses have talked about running a shuttle service for their staff to the station and we are working on increasing parking facilities."

Member of Parliament for Haltemprice & Howden, David Davis said, "This is very positive news for Howden and the wider area. We have seen a number of businesses coming to the area, and a strong and sustainable infrastructure is crucial if we are to attract even more investment. This service will help to provide that. My Parliamentary duties require me to make regular journeys to London from Howden, so I know first hand what a difference this direct service will make. I look forward to using it myself."

Jon Neal, East Riding of Yorkshire council member for Howden said, "I think it is excellent news for those who live in, work in and visit Howden. I have been calling for this for a long time. Ever since Hull Trains started, I know that they have been looking to make this kind of improvement. It is excellent news that they have been able to put forward the case for having a service that stops at Howden.

The new service is equally welcomed by local business; head of corporate affairs for the Press Association, Rebecca Buck said, "This service is really good news for a number of our employees and it also is very helpful to the business as a whole - our clients and our increasing number of visitors can arrive on our doorstep with the minimum of fuss and without wasting valuable time."

More good news from Hull Trains is the further investment in new trains in 2005, with a £23m investment in 125mph Class 222s trains which will significantly reduce journey times.
