  type Press release

As you may know, in 2003 the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) asked Midland Mainline to provide direct train services between Manchester Piccadilly and London St. Pancras, to help carry passengers during essential engineering works to the West Coast main line.

Our services between Manchester Piccadilly/Stockport and London St. Pancras – via Leicester, Market Harborough, Kettering, Wellingborough and Luton – have been running since May 2003, helping passengers travel between the North West, the East Midlands and London quickly and easily.

As work on the West Coast main line is nearing completion, our Manchester Piccadilly/Stockport services will come to an end on 10 September 2004, as planned.

People travelling between Manchester Piccadilly, Stockport and London will be able to travel on Virgin Trains direct services to/from London Euston.

People travelling from Manchester can still get to our East Midlands destinations listed above, by taking a train to Sheffield and then changing onto Midland Mainline services. Or, if you live in the East Midlands and wish to travel to Manchester or Stockport, simply take a Midland Mainline service to Sheffield and change there for a train to Manchester Piccadilly or Stockport.

From Wednesday 8 September the usual on board service will revert to a trolley service only, and breakfast reservations will not be available on the following Manchester services:

o 0800 London St. Pancras -Manchester, 6 - 10 September
o 0900 London St. Pancras - Manchester, 6 - 10 September
o 0700 London St. Pancras - Manchester, 9 - 10 September
o 0536, 0647, and 0747 Manchester - London St. Pancras, 9 - 10 September

We hope that you have benefitted from this service, and look forward to welcoming you on board again soon.
