Two female members of the Hull Trains team have achieved a first for the company by qualifying as train drivers.

Claire Glenville, Hull Trains DriverIn another exciting landmark in the hugely successful, but relatively short, history of Hull Trains, which was only formed in 2000, one of the two is also among the youngest long distance train drivers in the country.

Claire Glenville (23) and Lindsey Angus (29) have undertaken around nine months of intensive training to ensure that they are well-prepared for their new role driving trains on the Hull to London Kings Cross services that the company runs five times daily.

As well as covering everything they could need to know about preparing and operating the trains, they have also spent time learning about the route, signalling and every other aspect of the job.

Both passed their training with flying colours. In fact, Claire’s marks were among the highest in the country. They two are now ready to start performing their driving duties and will take up their new positions this week.

Claire has worked her way up through the ranks from an entry-level position, reflecting Hull Train’s commitment to investing in its staff and providing fulfilling career development opportunities for them. Most recently she worked as a Train Manager. Lindsey also worked as a Train Manager before setting her sights on becoming a train driver.

Claire Glenville, who has previously featured in Hull Trains’ promotional material, explained: “I was ready for a new challenge and the idea of becoming a train driver really appealed to me. It’s really exciting to be one of the first female train drivers for Hull Trains, never mind one of the youngest long distance train drivers in the country.

“It feels great to have come through the training and I am really just looking forward to getting on with my new role now.”

Ian Dunn, Operations Manager for Hull Trains, said: “We are really delighted for Claire and Lindsey, who have both done extremely well. Their new roles are an exciting first for the company and they are both extremely competent individuals who are well equipped to become train drivers.

“It’s good to see employees progressing within the company and both Claire and Lindsey have been with us for since the company was formed and have worked their way up the ladder by proving themselves in a variety of different positions within the team.”
