The first of Hull Trains’ brand new Class 222 Pioneer trains makes its maiden visit to Hull on Thursday March 10, before coming into full service in June. Media organisations are cordially invited to send a representative to see the new train, meet members of the Hull Trains team and enjoy a trip on the new Class 222 Pioneer. The details of the event are in the notes attached to this release.
Hull Trains, proud of its roots in the “ Pioneering City”, is delighted to introduce its fleet of four brand-new Class 222 “Pioneer” trains. The new four-car, 125 mph trains, represent a major milestone in Hull Trains’ short but impressive history. Hull Trains, formed in 2000, provides what is widely recognised as an outstanding service between Hull and the capital.
The new Class 222 Pioneers are a step change from the company’s current fleet of Class 170s and are the coming of age of Hull Trains. The new fleet, an investment of some £24m, is clear measure of the commitment by Hull Trains to continue to deliver top quality customer service. Whilst the Class 222 Pioneer is a new look for Hull Trains, the launch of the new fleet is most definitely a continuation of the values and quality with which the company has been so closely associated.
In addition to faster journey times, the Class 222 Pioneers offer even greater passenger comfort and improvements in both First and Standard classes with many features which bring enhancements to each passenger’s individual “living space”.
Technically the 222s offer significantly improved acceleration and speeds up to 125mph that will bring faster journey times which will be introduced incrementally through the national timetable changes; reliability features such as a seamless transition to the second engine, if required, and consequently trains kept to time; more seats, 192 compared with the 159 seat capacity on the Class 170s; greatly enhanced catering facilities in the kitchen and buffet to the benefit of both First and Standard class passengers.
The trains, built by Bombardier in Brugge, Belgium, will proudly bear British Racing Green livery, reflecting their status as first class train sets for a first class service.
Mark Leving, Hull Trains’ Managing Director said: “We are very proud to be launching the Class 222 Pioneers. They are first class train sets in every respect. Their introduction is a great credit, not only to the hard work that’s been put in by the whole team here at Hull Trains, but to our loyal customer base here in Hull and the East Riding, and beyond, whose support has been the backbone to our continued success. Our aim now is to scale new heights of customer service, and the new 222 Pioneers are the ideal vehicle to allow us to do just that.”
