With new trains already coming into service, there’s yet more good news from Hull Trains, which is delighted to announce additional train services for the summer timetable, 12 June to mid December 2005. It is very much hoped that the increased service levels will become a permanent fixture in the timetable.

From 12 June, Hull Trains will operate six daily weekday return services from Hull to London and an additional return service on Saturdays. The additional weekday service gives business and leisure passengers more choice and flexibility in planning journeys, as well as plugging gaps in the existing timetable.

Managing Director, Mark Leving said, “We made powerful case for the extra services based on increasing passenger numbers and future demand. We are delighted that the Office of Rail Regulation has awarded us the extra slots in the timetable and we are confident that any capacity issues on the network will be resolved which will ensure that these extra services stay in the timetable beyond December. I am also very pleased that the timetable reflects improved journey times of up to twenty minutes; in the new Class 222 Pioneers we have the fastest accelerating diesel trains on the network and we want utilise the train’s capabilities to the full.”

Speaking for the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce, chief executive, Dr Ian Kelly said, “This is extremely good news for the region. There has been widespread support for Hull Trains during the lead up to this announcement, not only from passengers, but also from Alan Johnson MP, as well as Hull City Council, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce, alongside many other organisations and individuals who have helped make a case for more services. We all recognise the importance of a first rate and frequent rail service between London and Hull and the East Riding in supporting economic development – and Hull Trains is delivering it.”

The new timetable also offers the opportunity of dramatically increasing the number of services at Retford; whereas now there is only one weekday service available southbound, from the new timetable there will be four return services. Hull Trains will also offer three return services from Retford on Saturdays and Sundays; at present there are none.
