Although the new range of food aboard Hull Trains’ Pioneer service may be served whilst travelling at 125mph, it is anything but fast. First Class passengers are now able to enjoy a leisurely meal served on fine crockery which replaces the previous airline style meals.
The recently introduced complimentary meals offer a selection of foods to suit every palette, with the new hot breakfasts proving to be extremely popular. The new Class 222 Pioneer Trains offer enhanced catering facilities, which make these significant enhancements to the menus possible. The galley now has steam ovens and Bain Marie, ensuring that the meals that are delivered to passengers arrive piping hot.
Hull Trains passenger, Nick Wyke, commented: "Several airlines could learn a thing or two from the complimentary hot food that is served in first class on Hull Trains. Both the breakfast and dinner menus are well balanced, with a choice of meat, fish and vegetable dishes, and use fresh ingredients, sourced in Britain where possible. Not having to prepare breakfast at home means an extra half an hour in bed."
Passengers purchasing refreshments from the buffet have also noticed several improvements to this service. Hull Trains has previously been praised for the excellent standard of its coffee and the new “Bean to Cup” coffee maker, from Brigg based suppliers Lincoln &York, offers ten different choices of coffee, which should satisfy every taste. The selection of hot and cold refreshments that are available is increasing all the time and Hull Trains’ On-Board Services Manger, Kim Butler, is always keen to find new products from the area.
Kim said: “We are always looking to enhance our onboard range and we are currently looking into the use of organic produce and products from the Yorkshire area. One of our suppliers, Hungry Henry’s, based in Brough, provides our popular sandwich range and the demand for these is continually growing.
"I am extremely happy with the new menus for our first class passengers. We carried out extensive research into what people want to eat whilst travelling and tailored our menu around those findings. They are already proving to be popular and we aim to continue to develop and improve all of our on-board facilities.”
