Oyster pre-pay will be available throughout the Metro route by early autumn, Silverlink, part of the National Express Group announced today. Work to install oyster readers at stations that have not got them is already well advanced.
At the same time a new ticket issuing system called FasTIS+ is to be progressively installed at Silverlink Metro station booking offices. The new equipment, which is PC based and has the facility to issue Oyster Cards much more quickly than the present system used at stations where Oyster is already available), will be installed progressively at all stations across Silverlink Metro, starting with Gunnersbury on 16 January.
Silverlink Metro has been working closely with TfL for some time to make all Silverlink Metro stations within the London Travelcard area Oyster compatible and aims to achieve this well before TfL assumes responsibility for the route in November this year.
Commenting on this exciting progress Silverlink Managing Director Mark Hopwood said: “We have accepted Oyster pre-pay on the Watford Metro line between Queens Park and Harrow & Wealdstone, as well as at Euston, since January 2005. The work we have been doing with TfL to extend Oyster to all our Metro stations is now coming to fruition and will result in much more convenient ticketing arrangements for all our customers on the route.
“Our aim is the same as that of TfL – to make travel for our customers simpler and more convenient are pleased that, working together, we are at the forefront Oyster’s development on national rail in and beyond the greater London area.“
